Runners take 2.2 to 3.5 hours to go from Lamb's to Millcreek(Upper Big Water) (mile 53.13 to 61.68). Water, food, and electrolyte drinks are available. THIS IS A DROP BAG STATION. Temperatures will cool down as you gain altitude and reach the forests and canyons. The climb up Lamb's gains 1500 feet in 2.1 miles. Brush can be annoying with some stinging nettle and thorny wild rose. Most runners will need flashlights through this section and warmer clothing. Dehydration and altitude make a dangerous combination so take very good care of yourself in the first half and it will pay off on the "Bear" ascent. The 5 miles of asphalt road are very narrow. USE EXTREME CAUTION TO AVOID BEING HIT BY A CAR. CREWS - PLEASE SLOW WAY DOWN WHEN TRAVELING FROM ELBOW FORK TO THE BIG WATER TRAILHEAD AREA AND BACK. Millcreek(Upper Big Water) has limited parking space. Some crews may need to park up to a mile below the trailhead and hike up the road. Despite all the inconvenience, we still expect runners and crews to be courteous to volunteers. Access is east off of I-215 up Millcreek Canyon (3800 South) from either the 3300 South or 3900 South exit. The checkpoint is 9 miles up a narrow winding canyon. Please obey the speed limits and proceed even slower the last 3 miles and back. WHILE THE FEE STATION IS OPEN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CANYON, ALL CARS WILL BE CHARGED $2.25 AS YOU EXIT. SORRY, NO EXCEPTIONS. Your runners will be heading east up the canyon on the pavement after a steep descent down to Elbow Fork from the pass. They enter from the west and leave the checkpoint uphill on a trail going south.
