BOUNTIFUL PEAK

Length = 5.19 miles

Starts at 7500 feet & finishes at 8160 feet

Ascent 1320 Feet <> Descent 676 Feet

1/2 Trail + 1/2 Dirt Road

Runners normally take 1 to 2 hours to go from the maintenance shed to Skyline Road Junction (usually called the Bountiful B aid station) at mile 23.95. This doesn't leave enough time for crew to arrive in time from the previous checkpoint. Water, food, and electrolyte drinks are available. The first half is run on dirt road passable by car at first but shortly requires 4WD vehicles. NO CREW VEHICLES ARE ALLOWED PAST THE MAINTENANCE SHED TOWARDS THE FRANCIS PEAK AID STATION OR TOWARDS FARMINGTON FLATS. The second half of this section is very brushy and at times very steep. The trail disappears into heavy foliage at times and can be very hard to follow. You cross up to 5 small streams and encounter 3 short but steep climbs. Runners arrive from the north climbing uphill and leave going south on the 4WD Skyline Drive road. Park below the checkpoint on the main gravel road. Access is from the town of Bountiful going east from 1300 East 600 North. The long, bumpy, gravel road is about 10 miles.
