TWO-WEEK UPDATE

August 24, 2008

TO ALL WASATCH FRONT 100 MILE ENDURANCE RUN ENTRANTS

The hard copy of this notice has been mailed to all entrants. Enclosed in the mailing you will find a card with your race number on it. You need to fill out this card and bring it with you to the weigh in at the pre-race meeting. Please note the parking restrictions posted on our website. I have included a copy of those restrictions in the notice that was mailed to each of you.

The pre-race meeting will be at Sugarhouse Park at 4:00 P.M. on Sept. 5th. We will be meeting in the Lake Terrace Pavilion. It is located in the center part of Sugarhouse Park. You will need to bring your drop bags labeled with your name, race number, and checkpoint. We will be at the park as early as 12:00 noon to begin the weigh in. It is a good idea to arrive early to take care of this before the meeting starts. We will stop weighing runners in at 4:00 and begin again after the pre-race meeting is over. We will also have your race number and t-shirts available at that time.

Due to sanitation problems and the difficulty of getting porta-potties into Pole Line Pass and in agreement with The Forest Service no crewmembers will be allowed at this checkpoint. We hope this will not be an undue hardship on you. We have an excellent checkpoint there with well-trained personnel who will take good care of you. Utilize the available drop bag service, and you shouldn't have any problems.

To help with traffic congestion, runner safety, dust problems, and significant financial penalties to the race we are asking you to follow these instructions:

  1. No automobiles past the Sheds at Francis Peak.
  2. No automobiles at all at the Bountiful B aid station. This is a very narrow road with no parking available and it is only a few miles from Francis Peak.
  3. Do not wait for your runners at Elbow Fork.
  4. All support vehicles need to park in the lower parking lot at Millcreek (Upper Big Water). You may walk up to the upper parking lot to be with your runner. The one hour restrictions include the lower parking lot.
  5. You may NOT drive to Pot Bottom. If you need to get to your runner after that, you can meet them at the Crest Road in Wasatch Mountain State Park.
  6. Because of your dogs on the course last year we have had to post a $700 deposit with the Salt Lake Water District. PLEASE LEAVE YOUR DOGS AT HOME! They are not welcome anywhere on the course, including the pre-race meeting and the finish at the Homestead.

I hope this dog problem can be addressed without making more rules and guidelines; however if our deposit is forfeited the runner associated with the dog will be charged. Make sure your pacer, crew, and families and friends are informed. Watershed fines may be as high as $1500.

When we last checked all springs on the course were still running. Information received after the printing of the mailed version of this notice, however, indicates that Rock Springs is running very slowly. Please check the Trail Conditions link on this website. We will give you a current update at the pre-race meeting. You may need to plan on carrying more water than usual if those springs happen to run dry.

Good Luck to all and I look forward to seeing you at Sugarhouse Park for the pre-race meeting and gathering of old friends.

Kindest Regards,
John Grobben
Race Director
